Pascal Struijk reveals Harvey Elliott messages after Liverpool injury controversy

Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk has revealed he has 'kept in touch' with Harvey Elliott in the months following his ankle injury.

Elliott sustained this unfortunate setback in Liverpool's win over Marcelo Bielsa's side back in September, which kept him out of action until earlier this month.

The 18-year-old had enjoyed a promising start to the season prior to his injury, having been trusted to start at home to Chelsea the week prior to facing Leeds.

There were initial fears that the talented teenager could be out for the remainder of the campaign, though he his accelerated recovery has handed the Reds' a major boost as they continue to challenge for silverware.

Struijk has admitted he has been closely following Elliott's journey back to full fitness and is delighted to see him back in action.

"[I'm] really pleased. I'm really happy for him to be back and so quick, I would say. His recovery has been quite quick," he told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.

"I've kept in touch with him, straight after the moment and a couple times when I saw him improving, going onto the pitch for the first time so it's been really good, [I've been] really pleased to see him [come back] - the contact we have is also good."

Hoping to now move on from the incident, harming the former Fulham youngster was a scenario the 22-year-old felt a great sense of responsibility for after the game.

Although the injury was unintentional, Struijk found the criticism he received difficult to deal with to begin with.

"It was a bit crazy and a bit hectic straight after the game and the day after. I kind of just blocked myself out of, around what's happening and just focused on the people that are close to me," he said.

"Life continues, and that's what happened."
