A lot of talk at Elland Road this summer has been around Leeds United signing a new left-back.
Leif Davis left to join Ipswich Town earlier in the window, while Junior Firpo is currently side-lined and endured an injury-hit campaign last season. However, the Whites may have their solution in the form of Pascal Struijk.
The defender has began the season in an unfamiliar left-back role, but impressed against both Wolves and Southampton. The defender provided the assist for Rodrigo's second goal against the Saints, nodding a corner into the Spaniard's path.
For his performance at St Mary's, Struijk has been named in WhoScored's Europe's top five leagues team of the week. WhoScored selected the 11 best statistical performers from across Europe's top five divisions, and Struijk was named as the left-back in the team.
The likes of Neymar, Luis Diaz and Kevin De Bruyne also made the team. As well as making the European team of the week, Struijk was also named in the Premier League version.
When talking about his selection, Ben McAleer of WhoScored said: "Pascal Struijk put in a man of the match showing as the Whites played out a 2-2 draw at Southampton, with the defender providing the assist for Rodrigo's second, that coming from his only key pass. With seven aerial duels won and six tackles, Struijk was good value for his WhoScored rating of 8.23 at St. Mary's."
Struijk wasn't the only Leeds representative in the team, with Rodrigo also selected after bagging a brace against Southampton.
WhoScored said: "Rodrigo only netted six times in the Premier League last season, yet is now halfway to matching that total after just two games in 2022/23. The Spaniard bagged a brace at Saints on Saturday, finding a way past Gavin Bazunu with two of five shots. Had his Leeds teammates sported their shooting boots, then Rodrigo would have had an assist too as he created three goalscoring opportunities to round off the Premier League team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.18."
