Partner of missing man Evan Reid 'completely broken' after tragic body find

The devastated partner of missing man Evan Reid has said her heart is "completely broken" after his body was discovered earlier this week.

The 31-year-old was last seen getting off a train in Paisley after a night out with friends in Glasgow. In one of his final messages to his partner Nicole Murray before he left the train, he said that "something dodgy" was going on.

Evan, who lived in Irvine, is not believed to have had any connections to Paisley, leaving his loved ones mystified as to his actions that night. Tragically, his body was discovered in the White Cart Water on April 10.

Three weeks on from his disappearance on Saturday March 25, Nicole has taken to social media to pay tribute to the much-loved dad-of-one, following a balloon release in his memory. Glasgow Live reports that she has promised to be "strong" for their young daughter Remi.

Nicole wrote: "Three weeks today since our world turned upside down. I have tried to write something so many times, I have so much to say but the words don't seem to come together.

"You truly were the most amazing person not only to me and Remi, but to so many other people, you were an inspiration to so many and always will be. Our hearts are completely broken and will never fully heal."

She added: "I will be strong for our daughter who will have the world like we had planned for her, I will make you so proud and I know you are looking over us. Me, Remi, family and friends will always remember the amazing times with you, you gave us all so many.

"I want to thank everyone for their messages, I haven't replied but I have read everyone and they mean so much. Evan – our young warrior."

Friends have shared dozens of tributes following the discovery of Evan's body on Monday. Some recalled him as a "tremendously nice guy" with an "incredible personality and spirit".

Close friend Saira Lee was among those paying tribute, writing: "We loved you so much. You were like our little brother.

"You’re someone who we always wanted to protect and look after. You were there to support me through the bad times, and the good.

"You were there when I had some of my darkest moments, to listen, to talk and to help me through. You always played the most uplifting tunes that would strike a chord with our emotions.

"You always encouraged me to stay positive and were there when I needed help. You were such a young person, but so switched on.

"You were an old soul. I keep listening to your voice notes, reading over messages and looking at pictures of you, thinking about all the good times that we shared.

"You were a huge part of our lives and life is NEVER going to be the same without you on this planet with us. I managed to smile today, looking at some of the photos I have of you when you were at your most carefree and buzzing wee self.

"I wish I could just give you one last hug and to tell you just how much we all love you as a family and how we'll keep you alive in our hearts forever. Wherever you are...I hope we can connect again somehow.

"I’ll always be looking for a sign. A sign that you're OK...and a sign that you're at peace.

"My buddy, my brother, and one of best people I have ever met in my life. I hope you know how much you really meant to all of us.

"Goodbye for now....fly high....and keep letting your light shine upon us like the star that you are."

Police said there were no apparent suspicious circumstances relating to Evan's death. A report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
