Partick Thistle Adam Strachan tributes announced after former Jags star's death at 35

Partick Thistle will pay tribute to Adam Strachan this week in their Premier Sports Cup match at Kilmarnock and friendly at home against Motherwell.

The former attack-minded midfielder's death was confirmed at the weekend, sadly passing at the age of just 35. He burst onto the scene at the Jags and was named man of the match on his SPL debut against Livingston, aged just 16. He made over 70 appearances at Firhill before moving to Ross County in 2008, helping the current Premiership side rise up the football ladder.

Strachan then turned out for Dumbarton, Albion Rovers, Clyde, Stenhousemuir and Arbroath before stints in lower league football.

His former club said in a statement: "Partick Thistle FC can confirm that the men’s first team will wear black armbands during this Wednesday’s Premier Sports Cup group fixture away to Kilmarnock in memory of former player Adam Strachan. In addition, we will hold a minute’s applause prior to kick-off on Saturday, when Motherwell visit Firhill for a pre-season friendly, to give Thistle supporters an opportunity to pay tribute to Adam following his tragic passing at the weekend.

"Our thoughts remain with Adam’s family and loved ones at this difficult time."

Current Thistle boss Ian McCall managed Strachan for a season during his first stint in charge at Firhill. He added: "It's horrendous news.

"He was trying to turn his life around. It took him a number of years. He was a very talented footballer and it just a horrible thing."
