Parking charges to rise by 10% in Dublin city within days

Parking in Dublin city centre is set to get more expensive in the next few days.

Rates will rise by around about 10% across the board from next Tuesday, February 1.

The move was agreed in December of 2021, after public consultation with Dublin City Council around parking bye-laws.

As a result there will be an increase to parking charges in all zones across the city by an average of 10%. A reduced rate will apply to motorists using the Parking Tag App.

Speaking about the increase, Dermot Stevenson, Parking Enforcement Officer, said: "The hourly parking charges are being increased to ensure that there is a suitable deterrent to long stay parking in the city and to encourage a high turnover of users of these parking spaces.

"We also want to encourage sensible parking in the city as well as asking motorists to consider alternative transport methods other than the private car"

Parking in the city will now cost:

  • Yellow Zone - €3.50 cash, €3.40 tag
  • Red Zone - €3 cash, €2.90 tag
  • Green Zone - €1.80 cash , €1.70 tag
  • White Zone (Sunday from 14.00-18.00) - €1.60 cash, €1.50 tag
  • Orange Zone - €1.10 cash, €1.05 tag
  • Blue Zone - €0.80 cash, €0.70 cash

It follows the rise on toll roads around the country which came into effect at the beginning of this year.

These are the routes affected if you're using a car:

  • M3: Tolls will remain at €1.50 for cars
  • M4: Tolls rise from €2.90 to €3
  • M1, M7/M8, N8, N25 Waterford and Limerick Tunnel: Tolls will rise from €1.90 to €2
  • M50: Tolls will not increase for those who use toll tags, but will increase from €2.60 to €2.70 for video account registered vehicles, and go up from €3.10 to €3.20 for those without toll tags or video accounts.
  • Dublin Tunnel: Tolls will remain as they are.
