The Paris Paralympics have drawn to a close and Great Britain have finished the Games with 49 gold medals.
In 2021, ParalympicsGB finished second behind only China in the final medal table after a highly successful few weeks in Japan, winning 41 golds in a total haul of 124 to jump ahead of the United States. That was the exact same top three again after GB matched their overall Tokyo haul and increased their gold count by eight. UK Sport had set a target of between 100-140 Paralympic medals this summer.
Poppy Maskill and Tully Kearney both won gold in the pool on the opening night, with Kearney then making it two in two days to go along with Maisie Summers-Newton defending her title and more cycling success for Jaco van Gass and Lizzi Jordan.
There were two para-taekwondo golds on Saturday night, as Amy Truesdale came out victorious and Matt Bush swiftly followed with a gold of his own.
It was a record-breaking showing last weekend, with ParalympicsGB already winning 12 gold medals. Hannah Cockroft delivered in the women's T34 100m, while James Ball and Sophie Unwin were among those to seal cycling gold.
The medal rush continued, with Dame Sarah Storey winning her 18th Paralympics gold on Wednesday despite complaining of an “appalling” time trial course, to go along with victories for the likes of Sammi Kinghorn and wheelchair fencer Dimitri Coutya.
On Thursday, Alice Tai won her second gold of the Games in the pool, before Daniel Pembroke broke the world record to defend his javelin title.
Storey took her incredible tally to 19 in the women’s C4-5 road race on day nine, with Ben Sandilands also setting a new world record to win the men’s T20 1500m before triumphs by Unwin and tennis duo Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid took GB just one short of their gold haul from Tokyo.
Cockroft picked up a ninth Paralympic title on Saturday, as she stormed to victory in the women’s T34 800m. There were two final golds on Sunday, with Charlotte Henshaw doubling her tally along with fellow canoe champion Laura Sugar.
