Paris Mayor Optimistic Despite Rain Threatening Olympic Opening Ceremony

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo expressed concerns about the weather potentially impacting Friday's Olympic Opening Ceremony due to rain, but she remained optimistic about the event. She emphasized the need for safety for the dancers and performers during the show, highlighting the challenges that rain could pose.

Despite the overnight and morning rain in Paris, no changes have been announced to the plans for the Opening Ceremony at this time. Hidalgo did not confirm speculations about potential performances by superstars Celine Dion and Lady Gaga, teasing that it would be a surprise for viewers.

Hidalgo has been actively promoting the cleanliness of the River Seine in preparation for the Olympics, particularly in light of concerns about E. coli bacteria. She personally swam in the river last week to showcase its improved condition and suitability for hosting events like the triathlon and open-water swimming competitions.

Describing the experience of swimming in the Seine as a dream, Hidalgo emphasized the significance of maintaining the river's cleanliness for the current and future generations. She believes that cleaning the Seine is not just about improving the environment but also about enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors in Paris.
