Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore & More Speak Out After Losing Their Homes In The California Fires

Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore and Adam Brody and Leighton Meester are among the thousands of people in California who have lost their homes in the devastating wildfires, which have been dubbed one of the worst in the city’s history.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles has officially declared a state of emergency as multiple wildfires wreaked havoc across the city. At the time of writing, CalFire had reported five active wildfires across the city, with a new fire breaking out in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday afternoon (US time). Three of the five fires are zero percent contained.

More than 2,000 buildings have been scorched by the devastating fires, and five people have sadly lost their lives, with the state’s governor Gavin Newsom telling CNN News that the death toll is likely to rise.

The multiple blazes across the city have burned a combined 108 square kilometres of land as of Friday morning (AEDT), which equates to almost the size of San Francisco.

Celebrities are among the hundreds of thousands of residents who’ve been forced to flee, with many using their platforms to speak out about the fires.

As the wildfires blaze through the city, some celebrities have taken to social media and news outlets to share the devastation the fires have caused them.

Celebrities speak out as California wildfires destroy their homes

Paris Hilton

Reality TV star and DJ Paris Hilton shared an Instagram post revealing her Malibu home fell victim to the devestating blaze.

“Heartbroken beyond words,” she began.

“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience.

“This home was where we built so many precious memories. It’s where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London.”

Hilton continued her post, writing she was “holding onto gratitude” that her family and pets are safe.

“My heart and prayers are going out to every family affected by these fires,” she wrote.

“My heartaches for those still in harm’s way or mourning greater losses. The devastation is unimaginable. To know so many are waking up today without the place they called home is truly heartbreaking.”

Further in her caption, Hilton said her 11:11 Media Impact Team are reaching out to non-profit organisations to help communities affected by the fires, writing, “We’re committed to offering help as soon as possible and making a meaningful difference for those who need it most.”

Jamie Lee Curtis

Hollywood icon Jamie Lee Curtis has shared a series of heartbreaking photos of her neighbourhood which was ravaged by the Los Angeles blaze, penning, “My community and possibly my home is on fire.”

“Many of my friends will lose their homes. Many other communities as well,” she wrote before urging netizens to post factual information surrounding the fires.

“Tough times. We will persevere. God bless you all.(Image source: Instagram / @jamieleecurtis)

“PLEASE POST FACTS! IT WILL HELP THOSE WONDERING!” the actor continued.

“It is a terrifying situation and I’m grateful to the firefighters and all of the good Samaritans who are helping people get out of the way of the blaze. Neighbors have taken care of neighbors. We ALL take everything for granted because we are all living our lives but when it hits your community, it’s particularly shocking.”

Cameron Mathison

Canadian actor and television host Cameron Mathison took to Instagram to share the devastating loss he suffered at the hands of the California wildfires, writing, “This is what’s left of our beautiful home”.

“We are safe,” he wrote alongside video footage of his home where some parts were still on fire.

“Our home where our kids were raised and where they wanted to raise their own.”

“Thanks to all who reached out and checked in. Can’t respond to all so wanted to give an update here. Sending so many prayers to everyone being affected by these fires.”

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Mathison said he didn’t believe that his house would be impacted by the fires, stating that he had “hope” he wouldn’t be affected.

“Somewhere in my heart I didn’t really believe that the house was going to burn,” he shared.

“So we grabbed passports and birth certificates and we got all the photo albums we could get out of there. I unfortunately left some really valuable ones where the kids were really, really young.”

Spencer Pratt

The Hills star Spencer Pratt confirmed on Instagram that he and Heidi Montag‘s home also fell victim to the devastating wildfires, sharing a picture of their son’s nursery.

“The one positive sign I saw as our house burned down was our son’s bed burned in the shape of a heart,” he penned.

“A sign of how much love was in this house so thankful for all the years and memories there with our family.”

On Wednesday morning (Aus time), Spencer shared a heartbreaking Instagram Story, revealing that his parents’ home was also destroyed by the fires, writing, “My parents house gone.”

Diane Warren

Award-winning songwriter Diane Warren posted the last picture she took from her beach house, sharing, “it looks like it was lost in the fire last [night]”.

“This is the last pic I took of Leah’s rock from my beach house. I’ve had this house for almost 30 years,” she wrote.

“There’s a rainbow shining on it which I’m taking as a sign of hope for all creatures who have been affected by this tragedy. The animals and the rescue ranch are OK tho [sic] which is the most important thing. Stay safe everyone.”

In a heartbreaking caption to Instagram, accompanied by a terrifying video of a highway covered in black smoke, singer and actor Mandy Moore said she felt “numb for all”.

“Grateful for my family and pets getting out last night before it was too late (and endless gratitude to friends for taking us in and bringing us clothes and blankets),” she said.

“Honestly, I’m in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family. My children’s school is gone. Our favourite restaurants, levelled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too.

“Our community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together. Sending love to all affected and on the front lines trying to get this under control.”

According to Page Six, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody‘s $6.5 million Los Angeles home also fell victim to the fires, sharing images of their Pacific Palisades home.

The publication also shared photos of the homes of Anna Faris, Eugene Levy and Miles Teller — which all fell victim to the devastating blaze.

Other celebrities including How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders, Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins and John Goodman have also lost their homes in the blaze.
