As the Olympic Games unfold in Paris, the city experienced scorching temperatures on Tuesday afternoon, reaching a high of 97 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Celsius). This marked the hottest day in the French capital since July 2022.
The extreme heat has triggered the formation of thunderstorms southwest of Paris, which are expected to bring rain and strong winds to the city in the coming hours. Meteofrance has issued warnings of potential heavy downpours, with rainfall amounts of up to 2 inches and wind gusts reaching speeds of up to 50 mph.
While temperatures are forecasted to remain above average in Paris for the rest of the week, there is a gradual decline expected each day. By the weekend, temperatures are anticipated to normalize, hovering around 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius).
