Australia’s 4x200m relay delivered with a dominant victory in the final race of the night in Paris. The star-studded team of Mollie O’Callaghan, Lani Pallister, Bri Throssell and Ariarne Titmus touched home in an Olympic record time of 7:38.08 to claim a first gold in the event since 2008. The incredible Simone Biles made history with her second women’s all-around victory at Bercy as the American scored her sixth Olympic gold medal and second of these Games. Paris may be a lovely city to discover on foot but Jemima Montag was going far too fast to take any of it in on her early morning walk around the streets of the city. Boxing
Controversy engulfed the boxing competition in Paris on Thursday after Italian Angela Carini broke down in tears after abandoning her bout against Imane Khelif with just 46 seconds on the clock. Carini took several heavy blows to the head before retiring to her corner, gifting victory to Khelif, who is one of two boxers permitted to fight at the Olympics despite being disqualified from the women’s world championships last year for failing gender eligibility tests. Football
The 2-1 defeat to the US proved to be Tony Gustavsson’s last game in charge of the Matildas, after Football Australia confirmed they would not renew the Swedish coach’s contract. Matildas players headed to Paris on Thursday after they were sent packing from the tournament with the defeat in Marseille; Gustavsson was not with the group who arrived at Gare de Lyon and attention now turns to his successor.
