France's outgoing interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, has announced the deployment of 2,500 police officers around the Stade de France for the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In addition, a total of 20,000 police officers are on duty throughout Paris to ensure security during the event.
The closing ceremony, scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. local time, will last a little over two hours. The theme of the ceremony, titled 'Records,' will showcase over a hundred performers, acrobats, dancers, and circus artists. The artistic direction of the ceremony has been entrusted to Thomas Jolly, who also directed the opening ceremony.
On the same day, the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated after a man was seen climbing the structure. Paris police have not provided further details about the incident at this time.
