Parents risk having £3,000 wiped from bank account unless they act by midnight

Thousands of parents across the country face losing out on money unless they act fast. The deadline to renew benefits or risk payments being stopped is midnight on Sunday, July 31.

Child tax credits and working tax credits are worth over £3,000 a year and HMRC says around 222,600 claimants risk having their payments stopped if they don't renew.

Claimants should receive a renewal pack in the post explaining everything they need to know about renewing your Tax Credits and not everyone needs to take action, Birmingham Live reports.

If your renewal pack has a red line across the first page and says "reply now" then you will need to renew your tax credits. But if it has a black line and says "check now" you just need to check your details are correct.

Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, said: "Renewing your tax credits is too important to forget. HMRC support is available at all times of the day and night via GOV.UK and the smartphone app to help customers get their renewals right.

"It’s great to see so many customers have already renewed their tax credits. I urge those who are yet to renew to do so as soon as possible, in order to avoid having their payments stopped."

You can renew over the phone by calling HMRC on 0345 300 3900. By post, you need to sill in the forms in your renewal pack, and send it to: Tax Credit Office, HM Revenue and Customs, BX9 1LR.
