A couple of sleep-deprived new parents admitted they had made a mistake after misreading advice given to them and feeding their baby ice cubes. The confused mum and dad took to Reddit to share their blunder on its popular 'Today I F***** Up ' forum, sharing their error anonymously.
In their post, they explained they were given a 'baby food poster guide', which offered feeding tips to new parents and the duo said they were taking notes from it. They say on the poster is an ice cube designed to illustrate how much of a certain type of food they should feed their tot - such as one ice cube's worth of peas or carrots.
However, being as sleep-deprived as they were, they accidentally read the poster wrong. "For six months it said 'veggies and fruit, smooth texture, two to three ice cubes twice a day'." They told fellow Reddit users.

"Never heard of the ice cubes thing but it was a reputable company so we just went with it and started feeding our son fruit and veg with a side of ice cubes. By seven months it said 'fruit, veg, dairy, eggs, grains and pulses, three to four ice cubes three times a day'.
"I thought, wow, he's hardly eating the three ice cubes we're currently giving him, he just pushes them around his high chair a bit and licks them, but whatever, we upped the ice cube portion. Mother in law came round and said 'why are you giving him ice cubes? Won't he get brain freeze?' But we said, 'no, no, it's a thing now, you have to give them ice cubes'."
They added: "It was only later that night, when I really thought about it, that I realised it meant portion size. All this time in our sleep-deprived stupor we have been serving our baby son ice cubes every day."
The post quickly garnered a lot of attention from fellow mums and dads, with plenty in stitches over the blunder. Stephnoob replied: "I'm absolutely rolling from "he's hardly eating the 3 ice cubes we give him."
Too_too2 posted: "I started laughing so hard at this line I was tearing up and couldn’t keep reading." Theladyisacat put: "I laughed at that part too! So hard that drool came out of my mouth."
Rubyshooz admitted: "Honestly, I probably would’ve translated it as veggies, fruit, ice cubes, blended as a smoothie. Lol." Lol1015 quipped: "You prob missed the part where they said to freeze the baby food in ice cube trays."
