Parents have hit out at a mum for getting Shellac nails for her two-year-old daughter after arguing with a salon owner.
A woman explained what happened in a thread on Mumsnet and asked others whether it was reasonable for a toddler to have Shellac nails. She wrote: "I’m in the nail bar. It’s a hot humid afternoon. This place stinks to high heaven of nail glue.
"Among the various women and nine year olds having their holiday nails done, is a 2 year old, sucking a dummy, having Shellac nails done. They’re using the plug-in file on her tiny nails.

"The mum is here and argued with the salon owner who said she was too young, got really sh**** and in her face to have it done, so it’s happening but the poor nail tech doesn’t look happy about it. AIBU (am I being unreasonable) for hoicking my judgy pants and saying toddlers shouldn’t have Shellac (damage to tiny nail beds, toxic chemicals, sexualisation of children as reasons off the top of my head)."
She later added: "The child is starting to cry so the mother now has her sat on her knee so her little hands can reach the CND lights."
Her post attracted scores of responses from other parents who were equally horrified that a two-year-old was having Shellac nails. Others said the salon should have refused to carry out the job and asked the customer to leave.
One said: "I can't believe the salon owner and the nail technician agreed to it! Absolutely crazy behaviour." Another wrote: "What an idiot. She should have been kicked out."
A third mum commented: "That's awful. Dear daughter wanted hers done aged about eight. I did ask the salon (hoping they would say she was too young) and they said def too young, the UV light is damaging to their soft nails. Yeah, I'd judge too, babies don't need Shellac."
A fourth added: "This is crazy, what about getting it taken off?! I don't think there's anything wrong with children having a bit of polish alongside their mum getting her nails done, but Shellac is mad."
A number of people suggested a report should be made against the salon. One said: "That's insane and the salon should have stuck to their guns and said no. I would consider reporting them if there is some sort of regulatory body (I don't know if there is for beauticians). If they're willing to pander to one parent's totally unreasonable requests, what's next?"
Another commented: "How disgusting. Can't believe the salon are doing it. Can you report to trading standards?"
