Parents fury at Aldi over 'sneaky' change to 55p baby wet wipes

Furious parents have hit out at budget supermarket chain Aldi over changes to its Mamia Mia baby wipes.

Aldi said it has discontinued the packs of 64 Mamia baby wipes - which contained plastic, and is instead selling 60 packs of biodegradable wipes.

Mamia 60 packs of biodegradable baby wipes cost 55p a pack.

The 64 packs of Mamia wipes cost 62p per pack.

The reduction of four wipes per pack may seem minuscule to some, but given the ongoing and worsening cost of living crisis , parents claim it's making a big difference, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group, shopper Kelly Jane wrote: "Aldi are getting sneaky! 64 down to 60!!!! Aldi UK sort it out! Read the comments."

Parents were quick to slam the supermarket, and the post has been commented on more than 4,000 times in a single day.

Francine Julian said: "I have stopped using them the new ones are horrible they remind me of huggies Wipes they both fall apart when your trying to get them out the packet was very disappointed with them."

Louise Johnson commmented: "It's all well and good people saying it's only 4 wipes, but they've put the price up too. They are taking the mickey. For some families every little helps even 4 wipes...."

Lauren-marie Gordon slammed: "They are absolutely rubbish now, bought a box and just opened them yesterday. It's literally like the Huggies ones. Who ever designed these clearly didn't try clean a dirty bum with them. Disappointed, moved to these in 2018 after pampers were changed. Now need something else. Only ones we found great on 2nd born with eczema. **( we don't need for eczema child now, we continued use for baby 3 and now 4)."

Chantelle Oliver wrote: "Not only that but they have gone to pot too! I'm stopping using them... They are so much smaller, they feel like the old huggies ones and the quality is awful! 2 packets used to last me a week... Now I go through them in 4 days... So frustrating as I love aldi normally."

Melissa Pruden said: "These new ones are absolutely pants. I can't even describe them lol. They stick all together you pull about 20 out at a time and when your wiping a poo you put your finger through the paper. Not good lol x I need an alternative."

A spokesperson for Aldi said: “Moving to biodegradable wipes is another step forward in our commitment to reduce plastic across our ranges. As well as being plastic-free, our Mamia Biodegradable Wipes remain significantly cheaper than the Big Four, and we will continue to do all we can to keep prices down so shoppers know they will always make significant savings when they shop with us."
