Parents face problems with Liverpool school admissions portal ahead of deadline

Anxious parents in Liverpool are facing potential disruption as they try to apply for school places for their children.

Parents only have a short time to apply for primary school places for September 2023, with the January 15 deadline looming.

But with just days to go, there are issues with Liverpool City Council's online admissions portal. A message on the council's website aimed at parents applying for primary reception places reads: "We are investigating an issue with the online application portal where some parents are not able to sign in or reset their password. We have extended the closing date to January 18 and have an alternative application process in place if you cannot access system."

Liverpool Council has explained that it is still receiving applications but that some parents and carers have faced problems with the portal, which are being looked into.

A council spokesperson said: “We are still receiving applications through the system, but we are aware that some parents and carers have experienced difficulties. Our third-party supplier is currently investigating the issue.

“If our supplier is unable to resolve this issue, we will make an e-form available so that parents can still log an application before the closing date.

“Parents and carers should also rest assured that if they have experienced issues there will be no penalty for submitting a late application."

Parents and carers must apply for a primary school place a year before your child can start school, meaning your child will be 3 or have just turned 4 at the time of application. Places are given via your local authority.

Gov.uk warns your child is less likely to be given a place at your chosen schools if you miss the above deadline. To apply for a primary school place, visit the website here
