People in Winchburgh are being asked what their views are on a new primary school being built in the village.
A formal consultation will be launched to seek local views on the establishment of a new school in the Hawkhill area.
The proposed new primary school will have an initial capacity for 231 pupils and will have a flexible design that will allow for future expansion if required.
The development of a new school and nursery at Hawkhill is required to ensure new housing developments have appropriate catchment schools and ensure there are enough placed for
kids.
The intention is to commence construction on site in 2024 with pupils attending the new school from August 2025. A 42-place nursery is also proposed.
The new primary school will be fully funded from developer contributions and planning permission will be sought to deliver the new facilities as part of the ongoing
process.
A public meeting will be held in Winchburgh Primary School, Glendevon Park Winchburgh on Monday, May 29 to allow for discussion on the proposal.
Executive councillor for Education, Andrew McGuire said: “The establishment of a new Primary School and associated nursery in the Hawkhill area is required as further development continues in the Winchburgh area.
“I’d encourage everyone to please engage with the council on the proposals once the formal consultation period commences in April. This will help ensure another first-class educational setting is delivered for the benefit of local children for years to come.”
Following approval from Education Executive, the public consultation period will commence Monday, April 24 and last until Friday, June 9.
The consultation paper will be made available via the West Lothian Council website. Please visit: https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/article/49192/Schools-and-Education-Open-Consultations
During the consultation period any views on this proposal should be sent in writing to Catherine Campbell, Senior Education Project Officer, Education Services, Civic Centre, Howden Road South, EH54 6FF.
