A mum and dad are facing jail after pleading guilty to being in charge of a dangerous husky which mauled their three-month-old baby girl to death in her pram. Kyra Leanne King suffered fatal injuries to her neck and head when she was savaged by a husky sled dog called Blizzard on March 6 last year.
Her parents Vince King, 55, and Karen Alcock, 41, had been exercising 19 dogs on a field when the horror unfolded in Woodhall Spa, Lincs. A court heard Kyra had been in her pram when one of the mutts which had been pulling a racing sledge escaped and attacked the tot at Ostlers Plantation.
Her parents, of New York near Coningsby, Lincs., were later charged by police after paramedics had alerted them of the tragedy. Alcock previously admitted being he owner and/or in charge of a dog which was out of control causing injury resulting in death.
King denied the same charge but today (Thurs) changed his plea to guilty on the first day of his trial at Lincoln Crown Court. Both were granted bail and will be sentenced on August 14 where they could face a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail.
Lincolnshire Police previously said Blizzard had been kept in isolation at secure kennels and the force was seeking an order for her to be put down. Detective Constable Craig Davey said at the time: "This has been a profoundly sad investigation for everyone involved in understanding the circumstances around baby Kyra's death.
"We have kept an open mind throughout this investigation, which has been lengthy and thorough and involved specialist forensic experts and officers from our Protecting Vulnerable People unit. We have now brought charges against two people, and will continue to work with the CPS as the case makes its way through the justice system."
