A pardoned Proud Boys leader said he "voted for retaliation" the same week a prominent Republican senator revealed that she and others in the party fear they will be punished if they speak out against the Trump administration.
Enrique Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison, the longest sentence handed down to any January 6 defendant, before he was pardoned by President Donald Trump. On Wednesday, Tarrio responded to a thread of Trump supporters disclosing why they voted for the sitting president.
"I vote for retaliation and retribution because of four years of lawlessness. Anyone else?" Tarrio wrote in an X post, with many users jumping to agree with the far-right activist.

His comments came two days after Alaska's Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski revealed during a nonprofit and tribal leadership conference in Anchorage on Monday that she is "oftentimes very anxious" to speak up out for fear of counteraccusations, Anchorage Daily News reported.
"We are all afraid," Murkowski answered when asked how to respond to people who are afraid of speaking up in the current political climate.
"We're in a time and place where, I don't know, I certainly have not—I have not been here before," she continued. "And I'll tell you, I'm oftentimes very anxious myself about using my voice because retaliation is real. And that's not right. But that's what you've asked me to do and so I'm going to use my voice to the best of my ability."
During her appearance, Murkowski also criticized the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) because "things are happening so fast" and no one understands the half of it. The Alaskan senator has also criticized President Trump; most recently, she criticized him for "walking away from our allies" and aligning himself with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
