Pardoned J6 Rioter Claims He 'Received No Due Process' During Texas Town Hall Showdown: 'That's Why I'm Running for Congress'

Pardoned January 6 rioter Ryan Nichols interrupted a town hall in Tyler, Texas, on Tuesday to claim he "received no due process" and announce his run for Congress.

The town hall, hosted by Rep. Nathaniel Moran, who has represented Texas' 1st congressional district since 2023, was answering a question about due process and deportation when Nichols began shouting about his experience after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

"I am a legal. I am a United States Marine Corps veteran. I'm here legally and I received no due process," Nichols claimed, adding that Moran did not visit him in federal prison despite he and his family reaching out for him to do so.

"You never answered my mom back. You never answered my father back. You didn't care about my due process rights," he continued. "I was pardoned because I didn't receive due process, and you're still not answering these questions. Four years in prison and you don't care," Nichols added.

The FBI arrested Nichols on Jan. 18, 2021. In November 2024, Nichols pleaded guilty to obstruction of an official proceeding and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, both of which are felony charges. He was sentenced to more than five years in prison and ordered to pay a hefty fine.

"I was never given an extradition hearing. I'm a Republican. I'm a Trump supporter. I was in jail for four years for Jan. 6. There's no due process in this country," Nichols claimed.

He then stated there was "nothing in this country" until there is due process before announcing that was why he was running for Congress.

"Everybody in here deserves due process. Everybody in here deserves to have their questions heard," he said while exiting the meeting. "Y'all deserve better. Everyone deserves better," Nichols added on his way out.

On Wednesday, Nichols released a video on X doubling down on his run. In it, he donned a black MAGA hat while standing next to a red-and-white banner that read, in part, "Make East Texas Great Again."

"Congressman Moran doesn't deserve that seat. He doesn't deserve to run for Congress and be inside of Congress. He doesn't deserve to represent the people of East Texas," Nichols added in his 4-minute announcement video.
