'Parasite' crawling out of mum's eyes was like scene from 'horror film'

A "parasite" that popped out of mum's eye looked like something from "Stranger Things" as people were left "feeling sick".

On July 22, Louise Edwards woke up to find what looked like a spot on her right eye and thought she had been bitten by a bug. But as the day went on, the lump was getting bigger, causing her eye to close.

On July 23, the 34-year-old mum went to St Paul's Eye Hospital in Royal Liverpool Hospital to get it checked over and was given antibiotics and sent home. But she was forced to go back as things did not improve and the pain was "the worst she had ever felt".

But eventually, after speaking to her neighbour who advised using boiling water to draw it out, the Allerton mum felt a "popping sensation" and some sort of "parasite with legs" came crawling out. Despite being in Turkey a month before and at the caravan a week before, Louise said she was unsure what it could have been.

Sharing her story with the ECHO, many readers have described the "parasite" as something from "Stranger Things" as others said it was like a "horror movie".

Claire Fearns said: "Hope you get answers it must have been horrific for you, not good to be told to ‘go home and keep taking your antibiotics’. Did you go in the sea whilst in Turkey perhaps? Something floating has caught your eye and grew but then again you can see how it’s grew rapidly already. Good luck finding out."

Gary Robbo wrote: "Terrible how many times Louise was turned away with this", as Sharon Sansbury added: "Omg that’s what horror films are made of!" Karen Ellerby said: "Looks like what was in series Stranger Things!"

Despite being in Turkey a month before and at the caravan a week before, Louise said she was unsure what it could have been.

Louise went straight back to St Paul's eye hospital with the "parasite" before showing nurses a picture. She said one nurse "laughed and said it looked like something out of an alien movie" and was told to carry on with her antibiotics.

She now has an appointment booked in with her GP and hopes to find out more about what it was that came out of her eyelid. After sharing images on Facebook, a number of people said it could be a botfly. Many have said the experience sounded "scary".

ECHO reader Bernadette Hynes said: "Wow that's scary, hope you're ok", as Jill Rogers added: "I would be scared in case it's laid eggs. I think they should at least examine what sort of parasite it is and give this poor lady more answers to see if it's capable of multiplying or not. So glad she managed to get it out herself."

Kelly Louisa Doyle wrote: "Aww Jesus I would of had a cardiac arrest." Meanwhile, Ann Garry commented: "Omg how scary, hope you are ok. I feel sick now."
