A “powerful evil force” has been detected beneath Bannockburn House, claims a paranormal investigator.
Ron Halliday from Bridge of Allan – who has written a number of books on ghosts and UFOs – was taking part in a paranormal night at the 17th century mansion when he said he came across spirits in the basement said to be some of the most sinister he’d experienced in 40 years of investigation.
Mr Halliday (72), who was at the listed building with Stirling medium Steven Bird, said: “I’d heard that Bannockburn House had a reputation for being haunted, but I had doubts as you hear quite a few claims like that so decided to check for myself.
“I was taken aback by what I discovered. My medium friend had taken a walk outside the house previously and had felt definite spirit activity present.
“My feeling was that some weird activity had taken place in the house over the previous centuries and the medium felt that there were spirits of the dead which refused to move on to the next world because of what had happened to them there.
“In 40 years of investigation I have rarely experienced such a hatred towards humanity as I felt when I walked into storage rooms in the underground area of the building.
“I use dowsing rods to detect the energy trails left by spirits of the dead and in this space they went haywire, signalling a powerful evil force was present.
“I had no choice but to exit as quickly as possible.
“Anyone ghosthunting at Bannockburn House at night should be wary of going into this room, and I would suggest it should be ‘put out of bounds’ for the foreseeable future.”

Bannockburn House events manager Ross Caldwell said this week: “We have several different teams that come throughout the year to investigate the house, usually, these are ticketed events to members of the public, and the paranormal investigation teams come with mediums and equipment to detect ghostly presences.
“With such a colourful and amazing history, the house has stood through centuries and the shadows of its former occupants and waiting staff can still be felt in the rooms of Bannockburn House by many who come to investigate.
“Personally, I was certainly a sceptic of it at first, but there has been many a time when working in the house on my own, I have heard conversations in the other room.
“Thinking it was clients I was meant to be meeting to show around the house, then heading to the main hall to greet my guests, only to realise that I was the only one in the building.”
Ron Halliday has spent many years investigating the paranormal and is author of a number of books including, ‘Haunted Glasgow’, ‘Evil Scotland’, ‘Famous Scots and the Supernatural’ and ‘Alien Spirits?’
