Paramount Pictures is gearing up for a sequel to its successful 2019 horror film, Crawl. The studio has tapped screenwriters Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan, known for their work on Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and Project Almanac, to pen the script for the upcoming sequel. French director Alexandre Aja, who helmed the original movie, is set to return to the director's chair for the sequel.
Crawl, which starred Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper, followed a daughter and father duo trapped in a Florida home and hunted by alligators during a Category 5 hurricane. The film proved to be a financial success for Paramount, grossing $91.5 million on a budget of under $14 million.
The sequel, tentatively titled Crawl 2, will feature a new cast and a new setting in the urban jungle of New York City. The production is aiming for a fall shoot in Europe. Gregory Levasseur and Zainab Azizi are on board as executive producers for the project.
Alexandre Aja, known for his work on High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes remake, has a strong background in the horror genre. The screenwriting duo of Deutschman and Pagan have also been involved in various projects, including an untitled horror feature based on TikTok videos and Every House Is Haunted for Netflix.
The team behind Crawl 2 is represented by top agencies in the industry, with Aja being repped by WME and Industry Entertainment, and Deutschman and Pagan by Underground and Frankfurt Kurnit.
