Para athlete Kayleigh Haggo has spoken of her pride at being inducted into Ayrshire College’s Hall of Fame.
Former graduate, Kayleigh, 23, from Maybole, was named as the ninth inductee of the College Development Network’s Hall of Fame.
The College Hall of Fame highlights and recognises the outstanding contribution that graduates and staff make to society and the economy.
It also demonstrates the variety of pathways to success from college.
Kayleigh is a Frame-Running world record holder at six different distances.
The talented athlete also took up the sport of Boccia in February, representing the UK earlier this month in Poland.
She said: “Being involved in the hall of fame, it means so much to me.”
A college spokesperson said: “Kayleigh won three gold medals at the European Paralympic Youth Games, setting 13 world records and four national age group records in swimming, race running and club throw sports.
“Those accolades are testament to her phenomenal drive, determination and commitment to succeed, irrespective of any barriers that are placed in front of her.
“Kayleigh has also been recognised by the NUS (National Union of Students) in their ‘Inspire her Future’ initiative, a priority campaign for NUS Scotland Women’s Committee, working to inspire and empower women students in areas where they are under-represented.
“Kayleigh has used these experiences to coach and inspire young people throughout Scotland.”
The spokesperson added: “A fantastic ambassador of Ayrshire College, Kayleigh is an Active Schools Co-ordinator and a Scottish Disability Sport tutor.
“She is also an Ambassador for Ayrshire Sportsability and Aofie’s Sensory Bus which involves touring around Ayrshire schools, businesses and other organisations to talk about the benefits of participation in sport for people with disabilities.”
Kayleigh gained her HNC Coaching and Developing Sport qualification at the college, before going on to complete her degree in Sports Coaching and Development at the University of the West of Scotland.
Kayleigh added: “I am incredibly grateful for Ayrshire College and everything they have done for me.
“When I was at college I was included within every aspect of the course, whereas previously at school, I wasn’t included as much in practical sports sessions in PE. I really felt a sense of belonging and I felt like I was there to learn.”
