More than a dozen jobs are set to be created at a new Papa John's takeaway planned for Long Eaton.
If plans are given the green light, the shop will open in Market Place, where the old TUI travel agent used to be next to Birds Bakery.
In planning documents submitted to Erewash Borough Council, officials from the American chain said up to 20 jobs were likely to be created.
Derbyshire Live reports that the shop would be open every day of the week.
A report written by Pegasus Group, on behalf of the applicants, says: “The site is located within the defined Long Eaton town centre where, in accordance with national planning guidance, hot food takeaway uses are acceptable in principle.
“Within the town centre location, there are a number of commercial and retail uses within an area which is well served by existing public transport links and other shops and services.
“The site also borders a public car park. As such, the site is considered to be located within a sustainable location.
“Although the unit formally operated under a retail use, the unit is now vacant, therefore the proposed change of use would not result in the loss of a ground floor retail unit.”
It argued that an empty shop unit “will detract from the vitality of the town centre”.
Papa John’s, said to be the fourth largest pizza delivery restaurant chain in the USA, has more than 450 stores in the UK.
Stores locally include in Alfreton Road, Radford, and Croft Road, Arnold.
