A man and woman inside a house surrounded by armed police reportedly demanded "Papa John's pizza and cigarettes".
Police were called to Uplands in Runcorn on Thursday, August 19 at around 1.30pm as part of enquiries following an armed robbery in Widnes which took place earlier in the day. A man and a woman who lived at the address refused to leave the house and a number of threats were made.
The surrounding area was cordoned off and armed police and negotiators were called to the incident. When the ECHO attended the scene, residents said the pair were reportedly "asking for Papa John’s and cigarettes."

Fire service were also in attendance and reportedly the gas was turned off as a precaution. The two were inside the house for more than nine hours. After engaging with the man and woman for several hours, they were arrested at around 11pm.
The 31-year-old man and 38-year-old woman were both arrested on suspicion of robbery, threats to commit damage and assaulting an emergency services worker. The man and woman, who are both from the local area, are currently being held in police custody.
Chief Inspector Andy Blizard, head of Runcorn Local Policing Unit, said: “I understand the concern that this incident is likely to have caused and I would like to thank the local community for their support and patience throughout the incident.
“Both of the occupants have been arrested and they are currently assisting us with our enquiries.”
