Paolo Nutini releases new album Last Night In The Bittersweet as fans are go wild

Paolo Nutini has stunned fans with the release of his new album for the first time in eight years.

The Paisley-born singer released his brand new album, Last Night in The Bittersweet, and followers of the musician went wild. This is the first music the star has released since 2014, just ahead of his headlining slot at TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow Green next weekend.

Two of the Scots singing sensation's three albums to date, ‘Sunny Side Up’ and ‘Caustic Love’, have topped the UK album charts and seen him amass eight million global album sales, eight million UK single sales, and 1.5 billion global streams, as well as scooping him an Ivor Novello award and multiple BRIT Award nominations.

Paolo had been keeping a low profile for the last few years since releasing his third album Caustic Love, but he is back and better than ever. After his eight-year hiatus, fans are raving about his new music and hailing his new music a "masterpiece".

One wrote: "He’s back with a bang, @PaoloNutini what an album. Worth the wait" Another gushed: " Paolo Nutini album out now, what a masterpiece."

A third penned: "Cleaning up whilst listening to Last Night in The Bittersweet. Thank you @PaoloNutini for brightening up my gloomy Friday!!" "It's incredible Paolo… gave me the goosebumps. Masterpiece. Congratulations," wrote another.

Meanwhile a fifth said: "Last Night in the Bittersweet is a masterpiece. Paolo Nutini should be so proud. After 8 years, this is how it is done." A sixth penned: "The gift of the new Paolo Nutini album = us all feeling like it is absolutely class to be Scottish when there’s music like this coming out of us."

Nutini told The Sun he finds lots of his inspiration for songs while travelling. This time he visited New York and Mexico following the end of a relationship which inspired Acid Eyes.

He says: “I pull it in from my perspective — it’s a personal song but I wind other stories in too. There was a big period of travelling and dealing with life and all the time I was writing. I’m always writing ideas. Even if it’s just the start of a song, I record the ideas. I squirrel them away and I’m happy with that way of working. I didn’t feel like I was wasting time, even though you can argue that I was."

As well as the news that four promising musicians have been awarded the University of the West of Scotland’s Paolo Nutini Songwriting Scholarship for the first time. Bethany Ferrie, Christian McCabe, David Grimason and Steven Allan - students from the University’s MA Music programme - will all receive the award, which is sponsored by UWS honorary doctor Paolo.

The rocker, who staged two sensational sell-out concerts in Oban recently, has also unveiled singles Lose It and Through the Echoes from the upcoming album.
