Paola Salcedo, sister of soccer player Carlos Salcedo, murdered in Mexico

In a heart-wrenching incident that has sent shockwaves throughout Mexico, Paola Salcedo, a beloved presenter, influencer, and sister of soccer player Carlos Salcedo, was tragically murdered at the age of 29. The horrific event occurred in the State of Mexico, where Salcedo was gunned down in front of her 4-year-old son while she was on a phone call outside a circus.

According to local media, the authorities are investigating the theory that it could have been a robbery gone wrong. However, witness accounts have sparked the idea that it was a direct attack against her.

What happened to Paola Salcedo?

According to the local police, Martha Paola Salcedo (her complete name) was attacked outside the Bardum Circus in Huixquilucan while attending a phone call. Witnesses recounted that immediately after the attack, Salcedo's companions hurriedly loaded her into her vehicle and fled the scene, preventing municipal police from gathering more details.

"She was taken to the hospital alive, but unfortunately passed away there," Mexican journalist Carlos Jiménez reported on social media.

Jiménez added more details about the brutal attack, stating, "A man shot her on Saturday night. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died around 9 p.m. The State of Mexico's Prosecutor's Office is now hunting for the perpetrator." The assault reportedly happened in front of her son and her assistant during an apparent robbery attempt.

Who Was Paola Salcedo?

Martha Paola Salcedo Hernández, born on April 20, 1995, was a dynamic young woman known for her charisma and engaging presence. She was the sister of Carlos Salcedo, a soccer player on Mexico's national team and current member of Mexican team Cruz Azul. She had made a name for herself as an influencer and sports presenter, particularly through programs like Líderes del Rebaño.

Her personal life included being a dedicated mother to Luka, born on March 31, 2020, from her relationship with Mexican goaly Nicolás Vikonis, who plays with the team Puebla.

This devastating incident follows closely on the heels of another recent tragedy: the femicide of Virlán García's sister, underscoring the alarming and escalating violence against women in Mexico. Feminicide, the gender-based killing of women, has become a grave issue in the country. Data from the National Public Security System (SNSP) reveals that over 1,000 women were victims of femicide in 2020 alone, with the trend showing no signs of abating. The horrifying frequency of these crimes has spurred widespread outrage and demands for more stringent measures to protect women.
