Just a few weeks ago, new Carolina Panthers wide receiver DJ Chark tweeted that 17 “might be the wave again.” Well, he’s apparently gone for the ride.
On Monday, players surfed into Bank of America Stadium for the very first day of the team’s offseason workout program. While cruising through his new digs, Chark revealed that he will indeed be wearing No. 17 for the 2023 season.

The soon-to-be sixth-year pass catcher previously wore No. 17 during his four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. There, he notched 147 receptions for 2,042 yards and 15 scores while earning a 2019 Pro Bowl nod in the process.
He then moved on to the Detroit Lions for the 2022 campaign, where he switched up his look to the No. 4. Those threads saw him reel in 502 yards and three touchdowns on 30 catches over 11 games.
Chark, who is coming off a recent ankle surgery, agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with the Panthers back on March 26. He could be dressed in that familiar number by the end of May, when the Panthers embark in organized team activities.
