The play of the day from this morning’s practice for the Carolina Panthers came when Bryce Young connected with DJ Chark for what was described as an “absolute bomb.” But since onlookers were not permitted to film that portion of the session, we’ll just have to take Chark’s word for it.
Following Thursday’s outing of organized team activities, the sixth-year wideout broke down the eye-opening connection with his rookie quarterback.
“I had a simple go,” Chark told reporters. “I really wasn’t the main read or anything like that. But I guess Bryce wanted to take that shot, so he threw it. Made a play, and that’s the type of things we need to continue to do moving forward. It’s good when you’re able to make a big chunk play like that that’s not on schedule, per se.
“So shoutout to him for makin’ that throw. He’s been doin’ that pretty much the whole offseason. So it’s good to be the recipient of a few of those.”
Thursday also marked the first session where the Panthers led off with Young taking reps with the first-team offense. Head coach Frank Reich confirmed the move for the No. 1 overall pick, who is now No. 1 on the depth chart.
Chark was also asked what kind of ball Young throws.
“A great one,” he replied with a smile. “Catchable. Precise. Not too hard, but it gets there on time. Anticipation—things like that. So it makes it pretty easy to be the guy that’s catchin’ it.”
So, not a bad day at all for the new top cat, huh?
