Wednesday wasn’t a vet day for Carolina Panthers wideout Diontae Johnson.
The former Pro Bowler did not participate in this morning’s installment of training camp. Head coach Dave Canales was asked about Johnson’s inactivity following the practice session.
“Diontae had a mild groin strain, and he’s pretty much day-to-day,” Canales told reporters. “So just talking to him, he feels like there’s something there. But I think he knows his body really well, he’s a veteran guy. So we’ll just continue ramping him up and increasing his work.”
Carolina acquired Johnson in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason. The deal sent the Steelers cornerback Donte Jackson and a 2024 sixth-round pick in exchange for the 28-year-old pass catcher and a 2024 seventh-round pick.
In addition to Johnson, the Panthers were also recently without 2024 first-round selection Xavier Legette. The rookie receiver exited practice 10 days ago due to a foot injury.
Legette has since returned to the field.
