Well, there’s no more need for speculation about how new Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero will run his unit.
Late Tuesday morning, head coach Frank Reich met with reporters to discuss where things currently stand with his growing staff. Reich would be asked if the defense will shift to a 3-4 base under Evero, who ran the same system with the Denver Broncos in 2022.
“Yeah, Ejiro’s been 3-4,” he replied. “It’ll be a base 3-4 scheme. But when we get in sub, it’s really multiple. It’s really multiple. There’s four-down, three-down, five-down. It’ll all depend on how Ejiro and the defensive staff wanna take advantage of our players’ strengths. We’ll be very multiple. But in our base defense, we’ll be 3-4.”
The Panthers, prior to Reich’s arrival here in 2023, had run a 4-3 base for the past few years with former head coach Matt Rhule. So not only will Evero shuffle up the deck, but he’ll also implement some creative looks with a pretty talented and versatile group of defenders.
And, hey, why not? The Broncos defense, despite a disappointing campaign from the other side of the ball, looked awfully good this past season.
