The difference between 2-0 and 0-2 is painfully slim at times. The Panthers now face a daunting hole to climb out of if they’re going to make the playoffs this season, and it all could have turned on just a handful of plays against the Rams and the Buccaneers.
Ask tight end Greg Olsen why his team is having such a rough start to the year, and he’ll say he doesn’t know the cause.
Drive-killers is a good word to describe part of what happened to Carolina’s offense tonight. Taylor Moton had a pair of false starts that stood out. Daryl Williams’ pass protection was atrocious in general. Cam Newton was inaccurate and generally out of sorts for the second straight game. The biggest drive-killer was Norv Turner’s play-calling, though.
Olsen was the only real standout player for the Panthers on that side of the ball. He posted six catches for a team-high 110 receiving yards.
Whatever the cause is, coach Ron Rivera has to find it and fix it fast, or he’ll be out of a job before the season is over.
