Panthers sign QB Jake Luton

Right before getting back together, the Carolina Panthers officially got back to a full bunch on Saturday morning.

As announced by the team to kick off “Back Together Weekend,” quarterback Jake Luton has been added to the roster. The signing of the 27-year-old passer brings the Panthers back to 90 players following Friday’s departure of rookie running back Tiyon Evans.

Luton has been no stranger to scenery changes. His collegiate career consisted of three stops—at the University of Idaho, Ventura College and Oregon State University.

He’d then be selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth-round of the 2020 draft. Luton started three games as a rookie in Jacksonville—completing 54.5 percent of his throws for 624 yards, a pair of touchdowns (one to current Panthers wide receiver DJ Chark) and six interceptions over a trio of defeats.

The 6-foot-6, 224-pounder has since gone on to pick up additional stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, a second for Jacksonville and the New Orleans Saints.

Luton is now the fourth quarterback on the Carolina roster—joining Bryce Young, Andy Dalton and Matt Corral.
