Carolina Panthers safety Xavier Woods knows how good Lamar Jackson is. So can you blame him for wanting 2019’s (unanimous) Most Valuable Player on his team?
That’s why on Tuesday, not too long after the Baltimore Ravens officially placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on the superstar quarterback, Woods tweeted the following:
Hold on.. let me see if I got Teppers # real quick https://t.co/uXIJrSguS0

Woods and the Panthers got a close-up look at Jackson this past season, when they fell to the Ravens in their Week 11 matchup back on Nov. 10. In what would be one of his last starts of an injury-shortened campaign, Jackson completed 24 of his 33 throws for 209 yards and an interception while rushing for 31 yards and the game’s only touchdown.
But the safety’s call to owner David Tepper, if he even made one, probably fell on deaf ears. As reported by Joe Person of The Athletic, not even an hour after the news broke, Carolina is not expected to pursue Jackson—who can negotiate elsewhere given the parameters of the non-exclusive tag.
