Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is striving for perfection, even though he knows perfection is not a possibility.
The 2023 No. 1 overall pick closed out mandatory minicamp on Wednesday by talking to reporters. Young, when asked about learning from his mistakes thus far, said it’s all part of the process.
“Mistakes are gonna happen, but that doesn’t mean we have to be satisfied with it,” he stated. “We understand, it’s a tough game. On offense, we’re goin’ up against a great defense every day. Vice versa, we try to challenge ourselves. We understand the competition that happens. So we understand that mistakes are gonna be made, but we don’t get complacent in that. When those happen—we adjust them, we try to get better at them.”
One of those mistakes happened today, when the 5-foot-10 rookie had a pass batted down at the line of scrimmage during red zone drills. But, just as the case was with yesterday’s lone rejection, Young knows it won’t be his last one.
“Yeah, incomplete pass,” he replied. “Another one of those mistakes we all have. The goal is, the red zone to score. Every pass we wanna be completed. I’m aware that’s not gonna happen. But, again, I’m not gonna be complacent about that.”
So, no, Young will not finish the season with a 100-percent completion rate. Sorry to you perfectionists out there.
