Panthers QB Bryce Young on adding weight: I’ll trust the strength staff

The post-mandatory minicamp break won’t be a full break for the Carolina Panthers and Bryce Young. So, what will they do for the next six weeks?

Young was asked that on Wednesday, and said he’s going to have fun—and by fun, he means preparing for the upcoming season. That preparation, as later noted by the rookie quarterback, will involve some non-football workouts.

“For me, I trust the strength and conditioning staff here,” he stated of his upcoming training. “We have an amazing strength staff that I’ve had the pleasure to work with and will continue to work with throughout the offseason. They do a great job here with not just me, but everybody on the team. So, they’re sending out plans, they’re sending out workouts and they have a plan for me just like they have a plan for everyone. I’m gonna follow their direction.”

In case you haven’t heard, Young is considered a bit undersized at 5-foot-10 and around 200 pounds. That’s why Joe Person of The Athletic asked the 21-year-old if he’s planning on adding some pounds during his offseason work.

“Right now, we’re finishing out this week, we’re doin’ the stuff we have here and they’ll send out the stuff for next week,” he replied. “I haven’t looked at it yet. So, whatever they have, I guess we’ll see.”
