As expected, the Carolina Panthers won’t be starting the 2023 season with their starting right guard.
The team announced on Tuesday, in the midst of the summer’s big roster cutdown, that Austin Corbett has been placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. The 27-year-old is still recovering from an ACL tear, which he sustained in last season’s finale against the New Orleans Saints.
Carolina’s decision to shelve Corbett will keep the 6-foot-4, 304-pound hog molly sidelined for at least the first four weeks of the upcoming campaign. As a result, he will not count against the team’s initial 53-man roster—which must be finalized by 4 p.m. ET.
Corbett said the following about his recovery two weeks ago:
“We’ve continued to add more into my rehab and continue to do more change of direction. Everything’s been goin’ good. Not swellin’ up at all, no setbacks. So just continuin’ to add more.”
The Panthers also placed defensive lineman Henry Anderson on injured reserve, but did not disclose the nature of his injury.
