Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer is in on every deal—even if one of those deals involves their newly acquired No. 1 overall pick. But, as of now, there are no deals to be had for it.
Fitterer spoke with reporters for the first time since pulling off the massive swap with the Chicago Bears. The Panthers—to put themselves atop the 2023 draft queue—parted ways with the ninth overall selection, the 61st overall selection, a 2024 first-rounder, a 2025 second-rounder and wide receiver DJ Moore.
When asked if any teams have called about potentially playing musical chairs and nabbing the pick for themselves, Fitterer gave a short (and unexciting) response.
“Not yet, no,” he said simply.
Not even a few hours after the Panthers corralled the selection, Joe Person of The Athletic reported that the team would be open to selling it off themselves. And that move, of course, would have to mean the braintrust is comfortable with multiple quarterback prospects this spring.
(Spoiler: They are.)
