Carolina Panthers great Cam Newton still believes there aren’t 32 quarterbacks who are better than him. But he’s willing to be No. 33 . . . for the right guy.
He hinted at who that guy could possibly be, in a new YouTube video uploaded on Wednesday evening. While expressing his desire to return to an NFL roster, Newton named 11 quarterbacks he’d be willing to assume a backup role behind.
There are as follows:
- Deshaun Watson
- Lamar Jackson
- Justin Fields
- Tua Tagovailoa
- C.J. Stroud
- Bryce Young
- Anthony Richardson
- Jalen Hurts
- Aaron Rodgers
- Josh Allen
- Sam Howell
The 33-year-old last played two seasons ago, when the Panthers signed him midway through the 2021 campaign. He appeared in eight games—passing for 684 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while running for 230 yards and five more scores.
Newton, in helping out his younger brother Caylin Newton, provided teams with a throwing session during Auburn University’s pro day back on March 21.
