The Carolina Panthers front office continues to shuffle.
As first reported by FootballScoop’s Scott Roussel on late Monday night, senior collegiate scout Joel Patten is retiring from his position. Joe Person of The Athletic confirmed the news earlier this morning.
Patten was hired by the Panthers under former general manager Dave Gettleman in 2016. He has served as the team’s Midwest area scout since joining the organization.
Before his eight-year stint in Carolina, Patten picked up multiple stops in numerous roles across the NFL. He worked as a scout for the Washington Redskins (1996 to 1999, 2004 to 2008), Houston Texans (2000 to 2003) and St. Louis Rams (2009) as well as the director of college scouting and director of player personnel for the San Francisco 49ers (2010 to 2013).
The Duke University product also played 11 pro seasons (eight in the NFL and three in the USFL) as an offensive tackle. Patten split his 56 career games between the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Raiders between 1980 and 1992.
