Panthers DE Brian Burns admits to trolling Broncos QB Russell Wilson

Being that he’s not exactly the coolest guy in school, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is a pretty easy target for a little ridicule. So even though he has a ton of respect for him, Brian Burns couldn’t resist himself.

Following his team’s 23-10 win over Wilson’s Broncos on Sunday, the Carolina Panthers defensive end was approached by reporters Vashti Hurt and Sheena Quick in regards to one of his sack celebrations—specifically the one that looked a bit familiar . . .

Burns fessed up.

“I trolled Russ a little bit,” Burns said with a smile after the victory. “Much respect to Russ. I love Russ, man. He’s a great guy. I just had to. It was just there.”

Wilson was also there for three Panthers sacks—two of which belonged to Burns. Those pair of takedowns moved the fourth-year pass rusher to 10.0 on the season—a new career-high with a whole five games left to play.

Although Burns probably planned on taking down Wilson in Week 12, what followed wasn’t on his mind coming into the afternoon . . . at least according to him. Burns, when asked if he planned on trolling Wilson, denied any such accusation.

“No,” he replied. “Like, at first, I was just flexing. And I was like, ‘Oh yeah, he do do that, huh?’ And I just did it.”

Regardless, Burns said it’s all in the fun and games and it was meant as no disrespect towards Russ at all. It was just his way of welcoming the nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion to the web.
