The Carolina Panthers are really making sure that they have enough hog mollies ahead of their second preseason outing of the summer.
As announced on Friday afternoon, the team has signed guard Ike Boettger. The 29-year-old is now the fourth offensive lineman added by the Panthers over the past week—joining Jack Anderson, Tyler Smith and Mason Brooks.
A Cedar Falls native, Boettger stayed local for his collegiate ball—playing at the University of Iowa from 2013 to 2017. He started in 22 of his 30 games for the Hawkeyes, seeing most of his work at the right tackle position.
Boettger then cracked into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills in 2018. The 6-foot-6, 313-pounder—who has appeared in 36 pro games—also picked up stops with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Indianapolis Colts and, most recently, the Detroit Lions.
Carolina is currently dealing with a handful of injuries along their offensive front—including to tackles Yosh Nijman and Badara Traore and interior linemen Chandler Zavala and Cade Mays. Boettger will, presumably, provide some depth for Saturday night’s exhibition against the New York Jets.
In the corresponding move to make room for Boettger, the Panthers waived rookie linebacker Jackson Mitchell.
