Panthers add 2 players to practice squad on Monday

The Carolina Panthers did some maneuvering on Monday, which included bumping up offensive tackle David Sharpe to the active roster. As a result, the practice squad was left with a few spots to fill—two of which would go to a couple of defenders.

As announced by the team this afternoon, defensive lineman Chris Wormley and cornerback Dicaprio Bootle have been officially signed to the practice squad.

Wormley, who visited with the Panthers one week ago, was a third-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens back in 2017. A 2016 Second-team All-American selection, the University of Michigan standout would play three seasons in Baltimore—totaling 54 tackles and 2.5 sacks over 30 games.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder was then traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in March of 2020. Before sustaining a season-ending ACL tear last year, Wormley recorded 16 starts, 88 tackles and 8.5 sacks for the Steelers between 2020 and 2022.

Bootle, a University of Nebraska product, broke into the league as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021. He’s appeared in seven games over his two pro campaigns.

Carolina, additionally, released defensive lineman Taylor Stallworth from the practice squad. The group, which is now at 15 players, is left with one vacancy.
