Panicked shoppers left 'shaken up' as 'youth sets off firework' in Trinity Leeds

City centre shoppers were "ducking" and "running" after a firework was let off in Leeds Trinity this evening.

At around 6.20pm, a youth reportedly let off off the "loud" rocket in the Briggate entranceway of the shopping centre. Shoppers were "scared" when they heard a "loud bang", eyewitnesses confirmed.

People were seen screaming and running in fear of the noise. One eyewitness recalled how she was shopping in River Island on Friday evening when she heard the noise of the firework and has been left "so shaken up".

She told Leeds Live: "I was in Trinity and heard loud bangs. I was so scared that I ran. I was so shaken up.

"I heard some screams. A few people were ducking down but I just ran. I was so alarmed. I hope everyone is OK." A spokesperson for Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre confirmed no one was injured following the incident.

They said: "At approximately 6.20pm, we were alerted to a loud noise near the Briggate entrance to the shopping centre. We investigated immediately and found the source of the sound to be a firework that had been set off by a young visitor who then vacated the centre.

"We have notified the local police. Nobody was hurt and no damage was caused. We apologise to any customers concerned by the noise."
