Panic in J&K's Doda village after 'cracks in residential structures', amdin shifts families, calls GSI

JAMMU: Over a score houses and others structures including a religious place have developed cracks due to "sinking of land in Thathri tehsil" of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir. This has created panic among locals, forcing the district administration to shift affected families to the safer locations.

Meanwhile, district authorities also have called an expert team from Geological Survey of India (GSI) which reportedly has been rushed to the spot.

Locals said that the residents in the area are in panic and have vacated their houses. Many have shifted to the relief camp while others have moved to their relatives' houses.

According to locals, the cracks in the houses structures were developed after Thursday’s landslide, suddenly creating panic among people as there was no such problem earlier.

Officials said: "A few structures in the village of Thathri Tehsil of the district started developed cracks a couple of days ago but the situation was exacerbated by a landslide on Thursday with the number of buildings damaged reaching 21."

“We have shifted affected families to a safer location after their houses were rendered unsafe", they said.

The deputy commissioner of Doda, Visheshpal Mahajan alongwith the senior superintendent of police Abdul Qayoom alongwith other officials visited the spot and assured all help to the affected families.

Confirming the incident in the area, the deputy commissioner said" "A score of structures including 18 houses, one mosque and a Madarsa developed cracks in a village in district."

"Acting promptly, the administration has shifted affected families to the temporarily established relief camps and the Geological Survey of India (GSI) team has been called to ascertain the cause of the sinking of land in the area," he said.

DC Doda added that some families have been shifted to the relief camp established at govt school in Thathri and some have moved to their native places.
