Pamela Anderson's breakfast nook features a reclaimed wood table, crystal chandelier, and framed art – we love her take on the modern rustic trend

There's nothing like a reclaimed wood statement piece to bring a rustic element into a space. However, some of us want to counterbalance nature with some contemporary or modern elements. We are getting inspiration from none other than Pamela Anderson.

The model and actor, who resides at a restored property on Vancouver Island, shared a snap of her breakfast nook to her Instagram page, and it gave us some stunning modern rustic decor ideas. Anderson has opted to pair her reclaimed wood dining table with a crystal chandelier hanging above. A statement portrait, handsomely framed in black and white, looms in the background.

According to design experts, furnishing with reclaimed wood is not only environmentally friendly but an incredibly stylish and unique way to decorate any room. 'Reclaimed items like wood are one of the most compelling design elements in modern interiors, evoking a sense of history, craftsmanship, and sustainability,' explains Westchester-based designer Nina Lichtenstein.

She continues, 'Its rustic charm can ground a room, while its unique imperfections and rich patina add visual depth. But the key to successfully styling reclaimed wood — whether it’s a dining table, coffee table, or an accent wall — lies in striking the right balance between rustic decor and modern, so the space feels fresh rather than overly distressed or antique.'

One of the primary ways to ensure a room, like Pamela Anderson's breakfast nook, feels rustic and modern in equal measure is by placing items that fit within each category in a space. 'To harmonize rustic reclaimed wood with modern design sensibilities, start with contrast,' Lichtenstein says. 'The natural, weathered look of reclaimed wood pairs beautifully with sleek and minimalist elements, creating a dynamic and sophisticated juxtaposition. Opt for clean lines and contemporary silhouettes in surrounding furniture, such as a slim metal or upholstered chair to accompany a reclaimed wood table.'

Naturally, mixing materials is a fantastic way to achieve a balanced space, and this stands true for glass accessories. 'Clear or colored glass pieces — whether vases, bowls, or modern sculptures — contrast beautifully with the ruggedness of wood,' Lichtenstein says. 'Their transparency and smoothness introduce a sense of lightness that balances the wood's tactile nature.'

The delicate crystals hanging from Anderson's chandelier are the perfect contrast against the sturdy wood table, tapping into a hard and soft blend. Alternatively, a different kind of bold material can infuse a more natural or rustic space with a necessary dose of modernity. 'Metals, especially in matte black, brass, or brushed nickel, add a modern, industrial feel to reclaimed wood,' Lichtenstein says. 'Opt for a sculptural metal bowl or a geometric metal candleholder as a centerpiece on a reclaimed wood table for a striking yet balanced look.'

We also recommend sticking to a neutral color palette in rooms with reclaimed wood furnishings. This ensures that any modern elements fit in seamlessly, and don't look out of place. Pamela Anderson's breakfast nook is the perfect inspiration.
