The Senate Judiciary Committee has announced that confirmation hearings for Pam Bondi, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general, are set to take place on January 15 and 16. Bondi, a former Florida Attorney General, was chosen to lead the US Justice Department following the withdrawal of former Rep. Matt Gaetz amidst bipartisan scrutiny.
During the 2016 presidential election, Bondi emerged as a key Florida surrogate for the Trump campaign and has remained a steadfast supporter of the president-elect. In 2019, when Trump faced impeachment, Bondi joined his defense team during the Senate trial.
Throughout her tenure as Florida attorney general, Bondi pursued legal actions against the Affordable Care Act, although these efforts were unsuccessful. She also staunchly defended Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage. Additionally, Bondi spearheaded initiatives to combat the proliferation of “pill mills,” which are medical facilities that prescribe pain medications without proper diagnosis or documentation.
