Former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration to be attorney general in November, leading President-elect Trump to nominate former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi for the position. Trump expressed his belief that the Department of Justice had been used for partisan purposes and stated that Bondi would refocus the DOJ on fighting crime and making America safe again.
Bondi, 59, is a Tampa native who holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Florida and a law degree from Stetson Law School. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1991 and has a background as a prosecutor at the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office, where she handled various cases ranging from domestic violence to murder.
Bondi currently chairs the Center of Litigation and co-chairs the Center for Law and Justice at the America First Policy Institute. Trump praised her as a smart, tough, and America-first fighter who he believes will excel in the role of Attorney General.
