Palworld base-building tips for the perfect home

The major thing that separates Palworld from Pokemon titles is the fact that there is a survival/crafting element to the former. Combining those elements with capturing creatures has proven to be quite the successful recipe for Pocket Pair, the developer behind Palworld.

Knowing that, base-building is a key feature in the game and going about it the right way can greatly help your cause when it comes to getting the resources you need to craft all the important items in the game.

Putting together an ideal base doesn’t just involve building pretty things. The location and overall layout of your structures can make a huge difference in how well your base and Pals work for you, and how well you’ll be able to thwart enemy raids.

That said, let’s take a look at a slew of base-building tips that will help you early on and a bit later in the game once you’ve leveled up some.

Build near resource-rich areas (especially ore)

Via Palworld

When building your initial base, you’ll want to be in an areas that has a lot of trees, rocks and Paldium nodes, as all three are vital for early-game crafting.

However, once you level up a bit, you’ll gain the ability to build a lumber yard, stone pit and rock crusher, which will make farming all three much easier once you deploy your pals to work on those stations.

Once you start getting into crafting metal gear and weapons, ingot becomes crucial. If on your adventures you find an ore deposit, building a base in the vicinity will give you an endless supply, just make sure to completely farm those ore nodes or else they won’t respawn.

At the very least, you should be placing a marker at said deposits so you know where to go when in need of ore to craft ingots.

Deploy a versatile group of base Pals

Via Palworld

Resource farming can get a bit grindy, but it doesn’t have to be. The best way to farm resources is within your own base, where Pals can be put to the tasks of farming different materials.

In order to efficiently get the things you need, deploying a versatile group of Pals that can handle different tasks is crucial.

For wood, stone and ore, you’ll want Pals that can lumber and mine. For food production, you’ll want Pals that can produce the ingredients and cook them.

In addition to those things, having Pals that can gather up and transport the resources to storage boxes will remove yet another responsibility from you.

Finding the most efficient farming methods within your base will become easier the more experienced you are in the game.

Keep an eye on base Pal statuses

Via Palworld

The first step after deploying a new Pal at your base is to craft them a bed. You’ll need one for each.

While inside your base, you can track the statuses of your Pal workers. Make sure everyone is doing OK or else it could hurt your base production. Upset and injured/sick Pals will work slower, or sometimes not at all.

For some upset Pals, it can be as simple as tossing them into the hot springs for a little break.

Other times, Pals can experience injuries or sickness, but both of those status types can be fixed by giving them medicine. Just make sure to read the tooltips at the medicine workbench to determine what you need.

Pals can also become completely incapacitated. The fix for that is the same for those in your party: give them 10 minutes back inside the Palbox and they’ll be good to go.

Allow for pathing

Via Palworld

If you’ve spent some time in the game, you’ve probably noticed that Pals can get stuck in certain areas. Sometimes, this impacts the Pal’s ability to get to stations and do work.

While Palworld has announced it is working on base Pal pathing, you can help yourself in the mean time by simply leaving ample space in between stations so Pals can get to them without issue.

Know where the raids are coming from

Via Palworld

You won’t have an exact idea of where the base raids come from until you experience a few of them, so take note of where enemies are pathing from when they happen, and then adjust.

Ideally, you want all of your stations as far away from the entry points as possible, as raids can result in damaged or destroyed workbenches, etc.

Also, be aware that friendly Pals can inadvertently destroy your builds with attacks, so make sure structures are in places where you won’t be impacted by friendly fire.

One of the best approaches to base locations is setting up on top of a ridge, where there is typically only one way in, and sometimes no ways in.

In addition, building an exterior wall at the edge of your base will further thwart enemy raids, but just make sure it’s inside the blue circle (the allowable area for your base) or else the structures will degrade.

If you’re finding that raids are proving too difficult and costly, you can simply turn them off in the world settings before loading up your world.

Put a box near each station

Via Palworld

As you build more stations and gather more materials, staying organized can get difficult. The best way to organize things is to build a storage box near each station that contains whatever is needed for or produced from said station, which also gives Pals a place to quickly transport them to.

Pals who transport materials will also have a place to actually put them.

This is particularly important for the lumber yard and stone pit if you don’t have a transporting Pal to grab the materials from those stations.

Sometimes there will be an amount of wood or stone from those stations that encumbers you, making you unable to move it to wherever you want to store it.

Having a box right next to those stations will allow you to grab, turn and place inside the box without having to move your overloaded behind. You also have the option of crafting a grappling gun, which you can use to move while encumbered.

Level up your base

Via Palworld

You’ll see a guide telling you what structures to build next on the right side of your screen. Following this will allow you to level up your base, which in turn allows you to deploy more Pals to work and farm resources and, eventually, build a second base (more on that shortly).

Build a second base

Via Palworld

Once you get your base to level 11, the game will permit you to place a second Palbox down, giving you an entirely new base.

You can simply rinse and repeat what you’re doing at the first base in a different area, or you can make your second base a bit more focused.

Some players are opting not to set up an entirely new set of structures like at their first base and instead are using the second one as a mining camp for ore, which will enable them to farm the resource and quickly transport back to the main base.

Again, Pals can help you with the task of farming and gathering the resource, so you can leave and come back to a ton of ore ready to roll. From there, all you’ll need to do is transport it back to your main base and turn it into ingot.
